Melbourne Cup Eve and District Governor’s Visit - what a great night - don't we have some fun in this club. We expected around 30 people, in fact that’s exactly how many were booked in at lunchtime and there were more like 40 people present when we started – marvellous. Thanks to Bob and Sherril Lewis for the organisation and preparation of the entertainment, the food and drinks. The hall looked great with helium filled balloons and the ladies with their fancy hats. This really set the mood for the evening. The editor didn’t attempt to make note of the winners of the various races Bob conducted but it was apparent that most people present won a prize. The DG and his wife looked like they were having a good time also. And from the organiser of the race meeting Bob Lewis;A big thank you to John Gabb sweep, John Turnbull bookie, Una raffle, Sherril catering and to everyone for helping on the night. And to all the Jockeys for volunteering to play the games, hope there aren't too many sore legs.

Since January our Club has been very busy. Many things to enjoy on Camp Quality Fun DayOn February 23rd we hosted a Fun Day Out for Camp Quality Kids. Camp Quality provides assistance and encouragement to kids who are suffering from cancer as well as support for their parents and carers. On the day we arranged for the kids to have rides on Jet Skis and on the Water Police Patrol Boat. Other fun and games were arranged by the Camp Quality organisers before we treated the whole crowd of about 80 to a free barbecue lunch and drinks. Some photos of the day are attached. March found us very active planning for our first Fun, Games Trivia night. We asked various organisations to form tables of 8 if possible and promised them that their entry fee plus any profits from the night would be donated to a charity or voluntary group of their choice. Entry was set at $10 per person. On the night, games, puzzles and of course quiz questions kept everybody well amused and most tables received a prize of some kind. After the event, we were able to donate to the following voluntary groups at the rate of $15 per person nominating them:- Wild Life Rehabilitation Centre EumundiCittamani HospiceCooroy Branch of Noosa SESNoosa Care KabaraNoosa RSPCASunshine Coast Prostate Cancer Support GroupAustralian Koala FoundationCooroy Branch of Qld CWANoosa Girl GuidesBreast Cancer Network, Sunshine CoastRoyal Flying Doctor ServiceCooroy Tennis Club The amounts for each varied from $80 to $240 depending on the nominations. In April we supported the Eumundi Branch of the RSL by providing a breakfast at the now annual Memorial Service on Anzac Day. About 200 people lined up for eggs, bacon, sausages and toast along with a variety of drinks. The traditional helping of Rum Milk plus Anzac Biscuits was donated by Eumundi traders to supplement our efforts. We have been proud supporters of the new Cooroy Blue Light Disco held monthly in the Cooroy Memorial Hall on the second Saturday of each month, and our own monthly Sausage Sizzle is held outside IGA (previously on the second Saturday, but in future on the first Saturday of each month) from 9.30am to 1.30pm. On May 15th we celebrated our 15th anniversary with a dinner for Club Members and guests. We were delighted to welcome our Charter President, Evonne Doherty who travelled from Ayr in North Queensland to be with us on the night. The District Governor of Rotary District 9600 on the occasion of our charter also made the trip from Brisbane for the night. Also present were seven of our 14 Past Presidents. Our club meets weekly at the CWA Hall in Cooroy on Mondays at 6 – 6.30pm and afterwards for dinner at the Cooroy RSL.
